Fall is here – it’s in the crisp cool air, the vibrant foliage, the abundance of squashes and fresh apple cider in grocery stores. The hiking trails are littered with shades of red, gold and green. Halloween is just around the corner, which is in my mind, a precursor to Thanksgiving and Christmas!
Fall has always been my favorite season, a reprieve after a long hot summer. I welcome it, even though it has been awhile since I’ve enjoyed a long hot summer, having recently lived in San Francisco for 7 years 🙂 I do feel a bit soft when it comes to “cold” weather. When the rain finally cleared yesterday, weather.com informed me it was 1 degree Celsius (33 Fahrenheit). It’s only October! My internal thermostat told me I was in trouble.
Despite my west coast upbringing, I really enjoy having the four distinct seasons. There’s always something to look forward to, though I can do without all the rain – a whopping 43 inches (on average) per year in Zurich! This is more than twice that of San Francisco. I guess something has to keep everything looking green and fresh. Right now, I’m looking forward to crisp sunny days, pumpkin pie and getting ready for ski season 🙂
