Zuri-Fäscht! The two-day festival in Zurich so big, so awesome and so expensive, it only happens once every three years. Last weekend, which marked the 2013 festival, attracted more than 2.5 million visitors to the city!
Every nook and cranny of the city was filled with activities including amusement park rides, concerts, games, water sports, air shows, over 300 market stalls with food, beer and yes even body piercings and two nights of fireworks! The fun literally spilled from city streets into the lake as visitors of all ages enjoyed themselves in the warmth of a perfect sunny weekend.
On Friday and Saturday evening, the crowds thickened as we anxiously waited for the magnificent firework displays. The coolest thing about these fireworks was not so much the exact timing of every spark to every beat of the music – but the fireworks that actually shot out of flying helicopters – I mean seriously, what will they think of next?
As the fireworks subsided, the concerts and clubs continued on into the early dawn. With my bedtime no longer a minute past midnight these days, I was already dreaming peacefully in bed to the rhythm of the techno beats outside as the late-night clubbers carried on. Perhaps in another three years, I’ll still be here to enjoy another festival.
